Mercedes Benz released today the first details and images with the new 2011 Mercedes S63 AMG just a day ahead of its official debut from the Geneva Motor Show. For this new version Mercedes launched a new AMG technology and the car will receive an all new 5.5L bi-turbo V8 engine that is connected to a SpeedShift MCT seven speed gearbox.
The previous version of the S63 was powered by a 6.2L engine but even though the new powerplant has a lower displacement it generated more power and more torque. The all new 5.5L V8 bi-turbo is able to produce 544 HP and 586 lb-ft of torque in normal mode and 571 HP and 660 lb-ft of torque with an optional performance package.
Mercedes Benz also confirmed that the US market will receive start/stop technology and even though the efficiency gains aren’t too big it will still be important for city traffic. The new generation of the S63 is 25% more fuel efficient than its predecessor thanks to a drive selectable “Controlled Efficiency” program which shifts up as quickly as possible and remains in higher gears when possible.
The standard version of the 2011 S63 has a top speed limited to 250 km/h and the model equipped with the performance package could go up to 300 km/h.
