The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics was one of the most amazing concepts of 2009 and a senior BMW official has just confirmed that the breathtaking turbo diesel plug-in hybrid will go into production in a couple of years. The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics was premiered at the Frankfurt Auto Show last year and since then it received only great and positive reactions.
InsideLine reported that BMW has not confirmed if the hybrid sports car will keep its powertrain made of a turbo diesel engine and an electric motor with lithium ion battery packs. The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept was equipped with a powertrain that produced 356 HP and a maximum torque of 590 lb-ft that could take this sports car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds.
InsideLine’s sources commented that the production model will quite probably be a real supercar and for that to be true, the production model might be powered by a hybrid version of BMW’s 4.4L twin turbo V6.
Also, the production model will be a bit heavier than the concept, a bit less fuel efficient and it might also have a design that is not as futuristic as the concept but it will still deliver an incredibly low drag coefficient and an incredible fuel consumption for a hybrid sports car.
We’ll get more details about the production model as soon as we get closer to 2013, the year when the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics will be headed to production.
