In a recent series of webchats conduced by Buick the company’s product marketing director Roger McCormack attended the chat. Buick has focused in these last years to launch higher volume cars on the market such as the LaCrosse and the Regal but future plans include coupe, convertible and wagon versions as well.
The Riviera coupe concept was unveiled three years ago and now the company’s marketing director declared that it could be ready to live as a production model. He stated that a coupe model is receiving very strong consideration at the moment and even admitted that a convertible could be really exciting too but hasn’t made any official announcement.
A wagon wasn’t ruled out either and could be among the first new models to join Buick’s line-up in the future. A hatched version of the Insignia is already available in Europe and a couple of months ago a prototype with Regal badges was spotted on the roads.
More details about these plans will be revealed in the future. In the gallery you can see new studio pictures with the Buick Riviera Coupe concept.
The new Buick Excelle Compact Sedan was caught on camera without any disguise in China and judging from these pics we think that the new Excelle might become the most attracting car from Buick’s lineup. The small sedan is based on the Opel Astra but it features a muscular and eye catching body with a big chrome grille and also some chrome eyebrows over the tail lamps that add a stylish touch to the rear end.
The Buick Excelle will probably have the same engine and transmission options as the Chevrolet Cruze but it will feature a more refined interior. This model photographed is probably the Chinese version of the Buick Excelle that will be premiered at the Beijing Auto Show later this month.
We don’t know yet if the North American version will be a bit different than this one but we will probably get more details about this model after the car’s official debut in China. The North American model will follow sometime in 2011.
Buick announced today pricing for the all new 2011 Buick Regal that will start from $26,995 for the premium CXL model including a $750 destination charge. The new Regal will be offered initially in premium CXL trim only, with additional trim levels to be offered to be offered in the 2012 model year.
The 2011 Buick Regal CXL will be powered by either a 2.4L Ecotec direct injected engine (as standard) that produces 182 HP or by a 2.0L Ecotec turbocharged and direct injected engine (from late-summer 2010) that is able to develop 220 HP.
Both engines will be connected to a six speed automatic transmission with Drive Shift Control (DSC) and the estimated fuel consumption is 30 mpg on the highway for the 2.4L version and 29 mpg highway for the 2.0L turbocharged model. The 2.4L version with CXL trim will start at $26,995 and the turbo version with the same CXL trim will begin at $29,495.
General Motors revealed today the North American version of the Opel Insignia OPC which was dubbed as the Buick Regal GS and will be premiered at the Detroit show. If the European Opel was powered by a 2.8L twin-scroll turbo V6 engine with 325 HP, the North American Buick will be powered by a less powerful 2.0L turbocharged four cylinder that develops 255 HP.
The Buick Regal GS was designed to explore the appeal of a high performance variant of the Regal and will probably enter production stage in the near future. The showcar that is going to be appear in Detroit is going to be equipped by a modified version of the 220 HP 2.0L turbocharged four-pot engine that will be offered on the Regal CXL models and after a couple of upgrades it gets to 255 HP and a maximum torque of 400 Nm.
The new Buick Regal GS will be equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox that drives the power to an all wheel drive system. The car will also feature an electronic limited slip rear differential and it also comes with a four wheel independent suspension.
General Motors announced that the Buick Regal GS will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 6 seconds and that means its acceleration time will be close to the Opel Insignia OPC. The Regal GS will also come with a revised steering wheel and a high performance braking system from Brembo with four-piston aluminum calipers, high performance pads and cross drilled rotors.
At the exterior level, the Buick Regal GS will receive the same sporty body kit and 20″ wheels and its interior will feature Recaro front seats and a flat bottom steering wheel.
During the presentation of the new 2011 Buick Regal at the LA Auto Show, General Motors flashed an image with what appears to be a new small Buick sedan that is expected to be based on the European market Opel Astra. The new Buick sedan was recently spied by the guys from CarPix in Germany and from these spy photos we can get a good look of Buick’s new sedan.
The car will keep Buick’s waterfall grille and it will have a set of horizontally mounted ventiports. In the past, the number of ventiport holes was the same as the number of cylinders of the engine but the new small sedan will probably have a four cylinder engine.
We’ll probably get more details about this new small Buick sedan as soon as General Motors releases some official photos and information about it.
