Luca di Montezemolo has announced today that Ferrari will premiere a 599 GTB Hybrid prototype at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The Ferrari 599 GTB Hybrid will be the automaker’s first hybrid car ever and will feature a hybrid system that combines a set of powerful lithium ion batteries and an electric motor in the rear transaxle that will be coupled with a petrol engine.
The electric motor will generate its maximum torque at zero rpm and this means the fuel consumption around town will be improved by up to 35% bringing the car’s fuel consumption from 9 mpg to 14 mpg. The 599 GTB hybrid will feature a braking energy recovery system similar to the KERS used in Formula 1 that will also power the engine.
The car will also come with a start stop system that will further improve its fuel efficiency and Ferrari is planning to take it into production soon after its official premiere at the Geneva Motor Show.
