First details about the Volvo V40 Cross Country

Do you still remember your highschool nerd? Well I remember his mother’s Volvo. Yes, I remember a square shaped green station wagon that everybody made fun of.  Time has passed and now I’m looking at this beautiful Volvo V40 Cross Country and I can’t help myself from thinking that this might be one of the most beautiful cars I’ve seen in a while. Earlier this month Heico Sportiv did a marvelous job with the tuning package for the V40 and furthermore, back in June, we’ve seen the S60 Polestar Concept.Volvo is evolving!

The V40 Cross Country evolved from the V40 premium hatchback that was launched earlier this year. The new vehicle is 40mm higher in comparison to the standard model and it is distinguished by a more masculine appearance, as some might say, but I think it’s just plain perfect. The body kit features a contrasting front bumper, a honeycomb mesh grille and redesigned side skirts and rear diffuser.Volvo has also fitted the Cross Country with vertical daytime running lights and wheel choices similar to those of the V70.

Customers will have a variety of petrol and diesel engines to choose from, starting with the 2.5-liter, five-cylinder T5 petrol engine that outputs 254 bhp – 187 kW and 400 Nm of torque, followed by the 2.0 liter, five-cylinder T5 petrol engine with 213 HP – 157 kW and 300 Nm, and finally the 1.6-liter GTDi T4 with 180 HP 132 kW and a peak torque of 270 Nm(including the 30 Nm overboost).

As for diesels, we have the 2.0-liter, 5-cylinder D4 turbodiesel with 177 HP -130 kW and 400 Nm of torque, the 2.0-liter D3 that produces 150 HP and 350 Nm of torque, and the D2 1.6-liter with 115 HP – 84 kW and 285 Nm. (including the 15 Nm overboost)

Mostly all of these engines can be connected to either a 6-speed Powershift automatic transmission or to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Volvo Car Corporation expects to sell 17,000 units per year of the all-new Volvo V40 Cross Country. The vehicle will be built in Volvo Car Corporation’s production plant in Ghent, Belgium. Production gets under way in November 2012.
