Maserati has a Porsche 911 competitor in the works
Maserati wants to take on the Porsche 911 with a new ride that’s expected to come out by 2015. The Italian automaker is preparing a mid-engine sports-car that will be available with either V6 or V8 engines. Also, the upcoming ride will get the same chassis as the new Alfa Romeo 4C that will be presented next month at the Detroit Auto Show.
Furthermore, Maserati has big plans regarding this vehicle as it will play a major role in reaching the 50,000 units to be sold by 2015. As a side-note, the Italian brand delivered only 6,159 cars in 2011 so making such a bold statement requires some pretty solid plans.
Sales are expected to grow thanks to the new Quattroporte, the upcoming Ghibli and the promising Levante SUV. The aforementioned 911 rival could get a twin-turbo V6 under the bonnet with 450 HP – 335 kW and a twin-turbo V8 that generates around 550 HP – 410 kW. Notably, the V6 model is expected to be offered exclusively with a RWD layout, while the V8 model will be optionally available with AWD.
