McLaren P1 concept will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show
Now here’s an interesting concept car… McLaren has released the first details about their P1 concept, a car that, officials say, has been designed to be the “best driver’s car in the world”. I love bold statements as much as I love stray dogs but when it’s coming from McLaren, I suddenly pay attention.
Yes’ it’s true that the car looks smashing hot, and yes it has a terrifying engine under the bonnet but, as usual, officials declined to release any performance specifications. Lots of cars are to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show and the car makers continue to tease the public with “leaked photos” of their precious concepts.
As you might have heard, the P1 previews the highly-anticipated F1 successor that will go on sale next year. The car’s exterior design has been inspired from the MP4-12C, but McLaren took it a few steps into the future with a more aggressive look. The back end looks like it’s from another planet, the hood resembles a Dragon’s nose and its sculpted sides look like Schwarzenegger’s tricep. Rumors have it that the P1 model could feature a 3.8-liter V8 engine and a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) for a combined maximum output of 963 HP – 718 kW)
Antony Sheriff, McLaren’s Managing Director said that “Our aim is not necessarily to be the fastest in absolute top speed but to be the quickest and most rewarding series production road car on a circuit. It is the true test of a supercar’s all round ability and a much more important technical statement.” He added, “Our goal is to make the McLaren P1 the most exciting, most capable, most technologically advanced and most dynamically accomplished supercar ever made.”
And there you have it. It doesn’t get any vague than this but we’ll just have to wait for the public unveiling at the Paris Motor Show.
