Mercedes halts S-Class production
Earlier this week, Mercedes-Benz has announced that its S-Class flagship production will be cut down until the next-generation model goes into the making in 2013. The company’s Sindelfingen factory will switch to one shift while the second one will be reassigned to C-Class production.
This decision follows a 27 percent decrease in sales in the past eight months, to just 5,227 units. Furthermore, several factors including slow sales in China and Europe, as well as the age of the model, have also helped in cutting down the flagship’s production.
However, the 2013 S-Class model is just around the corner and from what we can see in the recently previewed Aesthetics S sculpture, the new S-Class is going to be awesome. The vehicle will feature an “evolutionary styling”, as Mercedes officials like to call it. Under the bonnet, the car will boast the usual engine range as well as a new plug-in hybrid variant with a 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine and a 60HP – 44 kW electric motor.
