The Mazda Tudor 2014 Prototype is a vehicle that Mazda built, specifically for the Tudor United Sports Car Championship. When released, this vehicle will be the only diesel-powered prototype vehicle in the race. Mazda chose to use diesel power for this vehicle because many major sporting events have been won by diesel-powered engines for several years now. Mazda is hoping to copy this effect by entering its diesel-powered prototype in the race.
The Mazda Tudor 2014 Prototype features a very powerful 2.2 litre 4 cylinder engine that has around 450 horsepower and is capable of producing 580 pound feet of torque and a whopping 5200 revolutions per minute. This engine uses Mazda’s very own SkyActiv engine system. The prototype has a 6 speed sequential transmission gearbox that uses paddle shifters. The brakes on this vehicle are made from carbon material although there is no sufficient information regarding calliper configuration or disc size. The vehicle uses 18 inch forged aluminium wheels from the Motegi brand while the rubber comes from the Continental brand. The body of the vehicle is patterned on the Lola LMP2 chassis and uses a carbon fibre material for reduced weight. The vehicle also has an aero package installed for extra aerodynamics and faster speeds. This combination of parts and components brings the top speed of this vehicle at around 190 miles per hour.
The official dimensions of the vehicle are measured at 182.4 inches for length, 78.3 inches for width, and 113.8 inches for wheelbase. The vehicle weighs a total of 1984 pounds without the driver and the fuel. 1984 pounds is actually relatively lightweight compared to other vehicles in the competition. The intake and exhaust manifold used on this vehicle are manufactured by SpeedSource Race Engineering while the Turbo and Wastegate are manufactured by Garrett Motorsports. Bosch Motorsport takes care of the fuel injectors and fuel rail while SpeedSource Race Engineering takes care of the oiling and cooling system.
Currently, Mazda has released only 4 names for this car’s drivers. The first set of drivers is comprised of Sylvain Tremblay and Tom Long while the second set of drivers is made up of Joel Miller and Tristan Nunez. One more driver is required for each vehicle to form 2 teams with 3 drivers each.
