Rolls-Royce Ghost 1

Every automaker wants to go as “green” as possible these days and Rolls Royce is one of them too. The British luxury car manufacturer is planning to building a hybrid version of their Rolls-Royce Ghost that is rumored to be based on the hybrid system from the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 since the two luxury cars use the same platform.

The powerful Rolls Royce Ghost might still use the 6.2L V12 but it will be also aided by a 20kW electric motor that will add 15 HP and 155 lf-ft of torque to the car’s eight speed transmission. The car will be equipped by a lithium-ion battery pack that will be installed into the trunk.

The Rolls Royce Ghost hybrid won’t be able to run on the battery power alone but it will use the start/stop tech and it won’t need an alternator with the battery installed. This will lead te Ghost to a 15% fuel economy that will slightly improve the car’s fuel usage. Those added horses from the electric motor will also improve the car’s 0 to 100 acceleration time which should be less than the current 4.8 seconds.
