The Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Concept unveiled at SEMA

November 1, 2012, By Alexander Eckhart

Since this is the Sema week and Ford has so many Mustangs to show off (and no GT’s) we’ve decided to present yet another Ford Mustang. This time it’s a special version of the Cobra Jet Concept that boasts a brand new V8 engine and a huge supercharger that can provide instant on-demand power.

Ford officials have mentioned that the 2013 Cobra Jet’s 2.9 liter supercharger needs around 100 HP (74 kW) in order for it to work and to fix this issue they have installed two turbochargers. This way, both of them provide a sufficient increase in power without any losses related to superchargers. For this concept they selected the smallest possible turbos to obtain the necessary airflow, while other enhancements were implemented to improve responsiveness and lower internal friction.

There’s no word on the power figures or if this twin-turbocharged version will ever reach production, but keep in mind that it has a V8 5.0-liter engine available with or without the 2.9-liter Whipple supercharger.

Ford kept it limited to 50 units, with prices starting from $85,490.
