Volkswagen’s new Phaeton is under development
The new generation of the Volkswagen Phaeton is just around the corner as the carmaker’s research and development chief Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg confirmed that the model is currently under development. New details about the 2015 model are starting to surface around the internet and according to Motor Trend, “the model will retain its slightly odd position as a luxury car for people who don’t want to show off”.
The vehiclel is expected to be significantly lighter than the outgoing version thanks to the extensive use of aluminum and magnesium. Under the bonnet, smaller engines with forced induction and cylinder deactivation technology could be expected as well as a plug-in hybrid variant, but nothing is official as of yet.
Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg spoke at the Paris Motor Show in an interview given to Inside Line that “We are working on it now” and “the new car will be offered in the United States.”
